Picture This

With the light at the end of the tunnel now visible, I’ve started to think about the final touches for the bathroom. Like what art to put on the walls. I’ve always loved art in a bathroom. It can bring liveliness and warmth to a sometimes clinical space. Seeing as I love taking photographs but have very few displayed in our house (that’s what happens when most rooms are still in some state of ‘renovation’, lol), I thought I’d put a few in the bathroom. But what mood to convey?

Fresh and colourful?

A far-flung escape?

Architectural and graphic?

Or Textural and Moody?

Which do you like best? What art do you have in your bathrooms?

i like architectural and graphic. i also like textural and moody. i guess i mostly have organic and architectural type stuff in mine. good luck with your decision - i can't wait to see what you choose!

I think you should continue with the lovely clasic look you've got going in there. Something timeless and maybe sort of European in flavor? Deciding what to put up is such personal decision, though, and you guys have impeccable taste. Whatever you decide, I am looking forward to admiring it.

I'm always on the side of color! Fresh and colourful for sure, it's urban and has personality, but then I love the Textural and Moody too. They're great pics!

Textural and moody. However in our main bath upstairs there are 3 pics of our daughter naked when she was 3m old. :p

architectural and moody would be my first choice - love those photos, but a close second would be far-flung places as it would conjure wonderful memories.

cheers,

I vote for fresh and colorful. If it is too much after a while, you can always switch out the pictures - very cheap to do when you are working with photographs!

I have some of my children's art that I have framed , I love to look at it every day , I also have an abstract oil painting that I did ,which I wouldn't dare put anywhere else , and two framed patterned pretty papers.
I love Black and white photo's I think any of those would be pretty in your classic bath .

I love art in the bathroom too although I have none. Working on it though.

I think a collection in black & white is always timeless and classic. So you can't go wrong with that.

If you want a pop of color, that would also be fabulous. I'd just suggest sticking to a single dominant color and using big mattes to focus the eye on the subject.

Can't wait to see what you do! Maybe you will inspire me to get my butt in gear and hang something myself :)

Hello,

I don't have art up in my bathrooms yet, actually my house doesn't have much up on the walls and we've been there 2 years - yikes! When I do put stuff up I will be using images we collected from our trips to places like Portgal and Thialand. You can get creative with b&W, sephia or color accents. Not to mention the way you crop the photo.

Just a little note to say you are featured on my blog today

Take care,
Lisa

I like both Architectural/graphic and Textural/moody, but if I had to pick, I'd go for Textural/moody!

I love the photo of the people bathing in a far flung escape. The photo is fun, colorful and is perfect for a bathroom.

to add another idea, I got old pictures of myself and my hubby when we were about 3, playing in the tub.

I made them black and white and then when our little one was born, I added her photo to the mix.

It's my favorite art in our whole house!

I vote for the architectural...I framed photos I took while living in Europe and put them in my master bedroom. It looks great and is a nice reminder of all the fond memories. So naturally, I had to vote architectural!

Children’s art (free spirit art) and then a close second would be architectural & graphic.

hello

i came across your blog randomly from someone else's house renovation site, and i am really enjoying reading it. i must say, though, that i really liked the monet paintings in your bathroom before!!! i think it would be awesome to have something like that in my house, and i'd love to see the van gogh sunflowers one if it's still there!

anyway, i like your architectural and graphic photos.

the art in my bathroom is a black & white photo of a hippo submerged in a pond, as seen from above (so what you see is mostly a giant hippo butt!)

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! I was leaning towards b&w architectural prints myself, for that classic look... but now I'm thinking the room needs a bit of colour.

Jessica - great idea on the baby bath prints! Its a little more fun (and a good way to use pics of the new baby).

hi love your blog....following you on your journey of renovating....we just finished 6 months of construction on our 1855 house....i just wanted to comment on your bathroom question....i look black and white pictures of my kids in the tub and I framed them....we have an old claw foot tub and took silly pictures with bubbles everywhere, crazy hair, and my favorite is when we poured water over their head...good luck!
